(More customer reviews)My pediatrician recommended this probiotic for my 16-month old. It did work fairly quickly in regulating my boy's GI system. However, I dreaded the actual process of feeding this to the baby. A 1/4 tsp is supposed to be mixed with cold soft food. However, it alters the taste and consistency of the food to the point that feeding it to the baby became close to impossible. I mixed it with apple sauce, yogurt, mashed potatoes, mashed carrots, berry puree, etc. The problem is that the powder is granular and it remains so (doesn't dissolve) after mixing. As a result, mixing it with pureed berries was more successful than other foods, since berries have seeds, and so the difference in consistency is negligible. However, a 1/4 tsp of powder is quite a bit and it takes quite a bit of food to disguise it. Babies have a small stomach, and I could rarely manage to feed my boy the entire dose in one day. I always wound up with leftover food-theralac combo in little bowls - I just polished them myself, since at the hefty price, I cannot justify throwing leftover probiotic away.
I've come to realize that, while for us the quality of supplements is most important, for babies taste comes first. I think this is a quality product that works, but practically it is too hard to administer and quite expensive. If you're in the market for a baby probiotic, I suggest you buy a bottle to see if your baby will tolerate it - if he does, then great. If not, adults can take it too, so you won't waste it. Then on, to the next product. I found a chewable probiotic that tastes like yogurt smoothie - my child can chew it like a piece of candy and doesn't object to the taste.
